Camping at the Grand Canyon

While this was my third trip to the Grand Canyon, it was my brother's first.  We were in Las Vegas earlier that week doing a shoot, and had some time to kill before Life is Beautiful Festival that upcoming weekend.  So, with camping gear packed and looking for some relief from the 100+ degree heat, we drove to Arizona.  With nothing else planned other than setting up our tent and exploring one of the seven natural wonders of the world, we set out.  I know you've heard this before about places, and it's true in this case in particular, photos do not do it justice.  It's the feeling you get when you're there.  How in awe you feel, how massive and infinite it is.  Also the fear of falling off a cliff to your death just isn't quite captured on a camera.  First day there, we wandered through the surrounding woods, when we discovered a herd of elk.  Elk in person are massive!  One of the largest land mammals in North America and coming in at over 700 lbs.  I wish we had a banana for scale.  It appeared to be mating season and the alpha male was calling out to challenge any other males in the area as well as attract females.  Upon wandering back to our campsite we stumbled across a couple lone male elk who appeared to have been beaten up from fighting, and looking for the next opportunity to go against the alpha.  Anyways, all in all it was an awesome trip!  Oh and we did a pit stop on the way back at the Hoover Dam.  Which is pretty impressive as well.  Few photos from the journey below.  Thanks for checking 'em out.
